Organizations like The Hill Institute, NEXT, Flywheel + the City of Greenville came together to host their incubator events for the inaugural #StartupGVL that took place in Greenville earlier this month.

Entrepreneurs were encouraged to bring their business and project ideas to our city, and some companies walked away with funding to make those projects happen. We’re highlighting some of the winners from the week’s two competitions.

GVL Starts Demo Day

GVL Starts, an eight-week program from The Hill Institute at Furman University, hopes to elevate the startup and entrepreneurial scene in Greenville. The program offers aspiring entrepreneurs access to training, connections, capital in a business’ early stages, and the chance to compete for funding.

Three winning startups received $5,000 each through GVL Starts Spring Demo Day:

  • Surcee.com: A “virtual town square” platform for local merchants that functions as a one-stop e-commerce shop
  • Livi Lou Laine: Bra and insert system for women who have experienced breast tissue volume loss
  • Mochinut: Rice flour donuts + Korean hotdog food concept with locations across the US

Next Launchpad

NEXT Launchpad brought the Upstate’s top service providers together to give away $125,000+ in services like valuation, design and branding, accounting, and more to seven startups:

  • Charcuterthree: Stylish and fulfilling boxed charcuterie company founded by three sisters
  • GoBeep: Platform for sharing personal data that puts security first
  • A Polished Man: Men’s lifestyle and accessories store
  • Aconabolics: Chemical and diagnostics company
  • Livi Lou Laine: Bra and insert system for women who have experienced breast tissue volume loss
  • Bottle Titan: Quality control and data logging services for the beverage industry
  • Offeroo: Service for helping buyers make offers on off-market real estate

The next GVL Starts cohort will meet in August. The first step to cashing in on your good idea is by applying today.
