Table of Contents

Whale: adj. or noun

  1. Large sea critter 🐋
  2. Jargon for sought-after or rare beer
  3. The name of Greenville’s newest craft beer + wine bar

After months of anticipation, The Whale :: A Craft Beer Collective is now open inside of The Greene in Greenville’s West End. The bottle shop and bar will carry 20 draft beers, 200 bottles, wine, saki + mead. The Asheville-based biz, run by Andrew Ross and Jesse Van Note, prioritizes knowledge about beer and an appreciation of brewing history. If (like me) you regularly find yourself picking a beer based on the design on the tap 🤷‍♀️ – this is great news. The Whale is the type of place where you’ll be able to go and describe what you like – they’ll make sure to set you up with a great option.

Something else that makes The Whale unique – they won’t be featuring many Greenville beers. They know there are lots of places you can go if you’re looking for a local brew. Their focus is on rare + specialty beers. So, if you’re up for trying something new, this is your spot.

Aside from their beer savvy – we’re excited about The Whale because of its ambiance and killer(whale) location on the ground floor of The Greene, a new, urban-living apartment community in the heart of the West End. (Luckiest residents ever.)

The Greene is a 4-min. walk from Fluor Field + a 15-min. walk from Liberty Bridge. Aside from being home to Greenville’s newest bar, they offer residents a rooftop terrace with putting green, panoramic views of downtown, saltwater pool, fitness center with on-demand classes, + monthly social events (like private beer tastings with The Whale) that help residents connect with their community. Read more about them here.

Basically what we’re saying is this – if you’re looking for a fresh place to enjoy some craft beer + wine, check out The Whale. If you’re in the market for a new place to live, check out The Greene. If you visit either – make sure to let us know. Grab a selfie and tag @gvltoday. 📸
