Local coffee shop Mountain Goat funds trips for local, underserved kids

Donating all proceeds to GOAT, a non-profit helping underserved kids, Mountain Goat is making a difference, one authentic Belgian waffle at a time.

Mountian Goat is, well, the G.O.A.T.

This local shop, serving up coffee + handmade waffles for the last five years, donates all — yes, all — of its profits to Great Outdoor Adventure Trips (read: GOAT), a non-profit that gives kids from underserved communities the opportunity to “take in the wonder of nature and expand their horizons.”

Thanks to Mountain Goat, GOAT has just funded its 10,000th trip for local kids.

Owner Chrissy McCrary says the location for Mountain Goat,120 Shaw St., was specifically chosen because of the access to the kids in the area who benefit from GOAT, but its secluded nature means they don’t get much foot traffic.

How can you help? This shop relies on word-of-mouth advertising, and McCrary says “buy coffee and have some waffles, and you’re helping the cause just by being a customer.” We’re on our way.
