We all know how stunning our state is but what you may not know is that we’re actually star-struck. We even have our own Hollywood Hill (we’re looking at you, Paris Mountain). South Carolina has been the backdrop for some pretty famous movies, and we rounded up a few of our faves.

🎬 Cold Mountain (Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger): Scenes featuring College of Charleston + the Cypress Gardens near Moncks Corner.

🎬 Leatherheads (George Clooney, Renée Zellweger, and John Krasinski): Scenes from Leatherheads were filmed in Greenville, downtown Greer, Travelers Rest + Anderson. You can read specifics here.

🎬 Days of Thunder (Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall, Nicole Kidman): Featuring the Darlington Raceway.

🎬 Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks, Robin Wright): Scenes from USC Beaufort, Chowan Creek Bridge, and St. Helena Island. The Gump’s boarding home is a private property in Colleton County, Port Royal was the backdrop for the shrimp boat hurricane scene, and Fripp Island was used during some of the Vietnam war scenes, with other scenes shot on Hunting Island. More facts here.

🎬 The Patriot (Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger): Productions headquarters were anchored in Rock Hill, with the Darby Farm filmed in Chester County, featuring scenes in Edisto Island, Middleton Place Plantation + more.

🎬 Radio (Cuba Gooding Jr., Ed Harris): TL Hanna was being remodeled during filming so Hampton Street Elementary in Walterboro was used finstead (Fun Fact This school was also used in Forrest Gump).

🎬 The Strangers (Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman): Shot in Florence during the fall of 2006.

🎬 Sleeping with the Enemy (Julia Roberts, Patrick Bergin): Featuring the Converse College swimming pool in Spartanburg, the Abbeville Opera House, with scenes filmed at Presbyterian College.

🎬 That Darn Cat (Dean Jones, Hayley Mills, Dororthy Provine): Shot in Aiken, Edgefield, and North Augusta.

🎬 Dear John (Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried): Scenes were shot at the Isle of Palms’ fishing pier, College of Charleston’s Randolph Hall, the Charleston Air Force Base, and The Citadel’s infirmary. Cassina Point Plantation on Edisto Island portrayed the family’s home, with several scenes featuring Sullivan’s Island.

🎬 The Notebook (Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Tim Ivey): College of Charleston was used as the backdrop for Allie’s college, while Boone Hall Plantation was used for scenes of the Hamilton’s summer home. The house Noah rebuilt was at Martins Point Plantation (historically known as Bears Bluff Plantation), and the lake scene with all the swans was shot at Cypress Gardens. The nursing home scenes were shot at Rice Hope Plantation while the Old Village in Mount Pleasant provided the backdrop for the fictional town of Seabrook. And, of course, we can’t forget all the King Street scenes. More on those here.
