How to spend a fall day like the “Gilmore Girls” in Greenville

From “coffee, coffee, coffee” to “chilaquiles” and everything in between, here are ways to pay homage to “Gilmore Girls” in Greenville this autumn.

The Hampton-Pinckney Porchfest is Sun., Oct. 23.

What screams “Gilmore Girls” more than buskers on big porches?

So, what’s the verdict? We are an autumn. “Gilmore Girls” superfans (like City Editor Danielle) easily caught that reference. ‘Tis the season to hit replay on one of our favorite comfort shows, known for its fall vibes as the leaves change in New England.

While Greenville may not be Stars Hollow — and the leaves change a bit later in the season down South — we’ve put together an itinerary inspired by the show so you can live like a Gilmore Girl this fall.

Grab coffee and breakfast at Luke’s Diner

Sit in or take it to go at Vintage Coffee Cafe.

Start your morning at Luke’s, or in our case Vintage Coffee Cafe. This Overbrook coffee shop is a great spot for when you “need coffee in an I.V.” + boasts a food menu that would make Luke and Caesar proud with hot cakes, pastries, salads, and sandwiches.

If you’re looking to live the morning Caesar took over and made chilaquiles, we recommend breakfast at Comal 864 for some of our favorite chilaquiles in Greenville.

Shop at Doose’s Market

Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery is our very own locally-owned-and-operated market. Whether you’re in need of fresh strawberries or you’re stocking up for a movie night, this is the place to go.

Indulge in a slice from Weston’s Bakery

So, do you like cake? They’re very round. When we need a sweet treat, we’re heading straight for Brick Street Cafe. The vibe in here also reminds us of something you may see on the show. We have to recommend the famous sweet potato cake, but any of the slices will hit the spot. Plus, you can grab “coffee, coffee, coffee.”

Look (but don’t touch) at Kim’s Antiques

The Upstate has no shortage of spots to shop second-hand. Check out our full list of stores to hunt for your own treasures.

Book a staycation at The Dragonfly Inn

It’s a hotel rather than a B&B but, Hotel Hartness is our favorite spot for a fall staycation. Surrounded by its expansive property as the leaves change, stay in what was once the home to Greenville’s Hartness family.

And even though Sookie St. James isn’t the chef, you can enjoy complimentary breakfast, lunch at The Captain, and dinner at Patterson Kitchen + Bar. Make sure you don’t skip dessert. Anything James Beard-nominated Chef Tania makes is fantastic.

Enjoy a Festival

Stars Hollow was known for its epic festivals in the Town Square, like the iconic Festival of Living Art. From Porchfest to Fall for Greenville, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate the fall season in the heart of our city. Explore our full events calendar.
