The word “basta” translates from Italian, Spanish + Portuguese to “enough.” Well, if you can’t get enough vegan desserts + baked goods, you’re in luck. basta., a local bakery that specializes in vegan desserts, officially opened its new storefront on Thurs., Sept. 22 in the Village of West Greenville (1256 Pendleton St., Unit A).

We got a peek at the new space and talked with owner Alexis Krcelic about what to expect from her sweet new shop.

The Space

The Pendleton Street space (fromerly RockerBelle’s) has transformed into an 1920’s-esque eclectic dessert den. Outside, you’re greeted by a colorful floral installation across the entire storefront by Bluebird Events. Inside, you’ll find a variety of seating + tables, and a dessert counter towards the back.

As you walk in, don’t miss the the local art, like the custom floor-to-ceiling mural by local artist Ninja Picasso (whose work is featured in a variety of GVL spots including Shine Om Yoga + Mr. Earle’s Garden). Peep the nods to basta. within the mural, like slices of cake.

The wall opposite the mural hosts a gallery of local art for sale and a bookshelf with basta. merch, stickers, and greeting cards.

The Eats

While there’s no traditional kitchen, you’ll find no shortage of vegan treats at the dessert counter, including (but not limited to):

  • Banana bread — chocolate chip + classic banana
  • Truffles — Olive Oil Pineapple Bay Leaf + Bourbon Chocolate
  • Cookies — Doozies (cookie sandwiches) + chocolate orange cardamom
  • Blondies + brownies — with flavors like espresso, red wine, and red velvet
  • Cake — Pumpkin Brown Sugar Chai

basta. also has plans to serve coffee + espresso drinks.

basta. is open Mon., 12-4 and Thurs.-Sat., 12-4 + 6-10 p.m. In addition to it’s storefront, you’ll find basta. treats at the TD Saturday Market and online.
