Hey Greenville. 👋 We have another fun #FieldTrip to share with you today. As you may know, the South Carolina Children’s Theatre is currently constructing a brand new location on Augusta St. (right across from where the in-progress Gather GVL is located).

We got to take a sneak peek at the construction progress – and we wanted to share with y’all how well everything is coming together.

The theatre officially broke ground on the new space about a year ago (Sept. 11, 2018) with the help of the project partners making this whole thing possible, who include: Craig Gaulden Davis Architecture, Productions Unlimited, Southern First Bank, and Triangle Construction.

Here’s the highlights of the soon-to-be new space:

The new 36k sq. ft. theatre will have two stages – a larger main stage + a smaller, more intimate stage for things like class performances, educational content, events, etc.

For the first time in 32 years, everything will be in one place – in the past, the Peace Center has handled the ticketing, offices were in a different location, etc.

There will be several classrooms, all with rubber floors (because #safety).

The theatre will have a large attic to house all of the theatre’s costumes from the last 30+ years.

They’ve raised nearly $13 million for this project + are still hoping to raise more.

A grand opening is planned for June of 2020.

The first show in the new theatre is scheduled for July + will be Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat.

We’re pretty pumped about this project, and it really is a labor of love for the team working on it. The architect + builders are from Greenville, so this is more than just a job to them. It’s about making a positive impact on the community.
