The TD Convention Center is getting a new name

TD Bank just announced that its sponsorship of the TD Convention Center has ended + the bank doesn’t plan to renew it. That means naming rights are up for grabs.

The company who manages the convention center for the city says a new name announcement is coming later this year (but the city hasn’t confirmed if or when that’ll happen).

If sponsored naming rights were out of the picture, we’re wondering what you would rename one of the largest exhibit halls in the country?

We’re brainstorming notable Greenville figures (The Knox White Convention Center?), or something we’re known for (Nashville has the Music City Centerwe could have Cycle City Center?). We’re also pretty into Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace.

Here’s what the center’s been called in the past:

1993: After Textile Hall (which opened downtown in 1917) moved to Pleasantburg Dr. in the 60s + expanded its exhibit space, the name was changed in the 90s to the Palmetto Expo Center.

2007: The City of Greenville bought the Palmetto Expo Center in 2001 from Textile Hall Corp. (for $6.75 million). Six years later, Carolina First Bank purchased the naming rights to the convention center, renaming it the Carolina First Center.

2011: The Carolina First Bank brand was converted to TD Bank, and TD Bank assumed the multi-year naming rights sponsorship of the center, resulting in the TD Convention Center.
