So, we’re guessing you’ll be heading downtown tomorrow to celebrate the holiday. But if you’re wanting to beat the heat by taking a dip in the Reedy and splashing around, think again.

Recent testing has shown the levels of E. coli in the river are on the rise. And due to the spotty nature of bacteria-testing in rivers, especially urban-center streams, it’s safest to stay out of the water entirely. Especially if you were planning on fully submerging.

Officials say wading in ankle-deep is probably okay, but there’s really no way to know for sure. The plus side? The water features downtown are A-Okay.
