The road to the Final Four could start in Greenville, either for the Furman Paladins looking to shine their glass slippers or one of the eight teams starting the NCAA Tournament here for rounds one and two.

Five SC teams are in, and we’re hosting, which means March Madness is going to be extra wild in Greenville this year.

Eight teams are headed to our city for the first round on Thursday, March 19, and the second round on Saturday, March 21.

Who’s coming?

  • No. 1 Duke vs. No. 16 Siena
  • No. 8 Ohio State vs. No. 9 TCU
  • No. 6 UNC vs. No. 11 VCU
  • No. 3 Illinois vs. No. 14 Penn

Fun fact: Duke has been in Greenville three out of four times we’ve hosted the NCAA tournament.

Where are local teams headed?

Furman men’s basketball is a No. 15 seed in Philadelphia where they’ll play No. 2 UConn. Who remembers the last time the Dins were in when they busted 89.33% of brackets?

The Gamecock women are a No. 1 seed and will host the first two rounds in Columbia (hey, COLAtoday). They’ll play whoever wins the First Four matchup between No. 16 seeds Southern and Samford.

Clemson men’s basketball is a No. 8 seed facing No. 9 Iowa in Tampa (hey, TBAYtoday). Clemson’s women’s basketball is also a No. 8 seed facing No. 9 SoCal (the other USC), also in Columbia.

Note: If South Carolina and Clemson women both win their first-round games, they’ll face each other in the second round.

The No. 14 College of Charleston women will face No. 3 Duke in Durham for the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
