Last Saturday night, S.C. Senator Paul Campbell was arrested on DUI charges (with a .09 BAC) + providing false information to the police.

The driver of the car rear-ended in the accident says she saw the car pull off the highway and Campbell get out of the driver’s seat + switch places with his wife, who was in the passenger seat. The driver also claimed Senator Campbell asked her multiple times to leave the scene + handed her his Senate business card when she refused.

However, the S.C. Highway Patrol said troopers spoke with everyone involved in the collision and came to the conclusion that the 71-year-old senator “was behind the wheel.”

State lawmakers must first be formally indicted before disciplinary action can be taken.
