On Thursday, Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis took to the podium + read a statement in response to a former Sheriff’s Office employee’s allegations of misconduct. Lewis stated that he had a consensual relationship with the former employee but denied her allegations of harassment + sexual assault, saying they have “zero credibility.”
He apologized to his family and asked forgiveness from his deputies, while emphasizing that his “personal infidelity” does not reflect on the caliber of the Sheriff’s Office. He does not plan to step down from his position as Sheriff + didn’t take questions after reading his statement.
The former employee who voiced these allegations filed a lawsuit against Sheriff Lewis this week. Lewis said that answers to the lawsuit’s claims will come out during litigation.
