Ahh, the smell of fresh paint. Today we’re excited to share some updates to our newsletter design. We hope these changes will help us deliver an even better reader experience — but as with most remodels, we may experience a few hiccups along the way. If your email doesn’t look quite right or if you have feedback on ways we can continue to improve, please drop us a line.
🏓 A sneak peek of PKL Park
Courts to the right, more fun to the left. | Photo by GVLtoday
“This place is awesome and it isn’t even done yet.”
“Everything here is intentional,” Thompson said. “That’s what makes it so awesome.”
PKL Park hopes to open by the end of the month, but we’re getting you ready by highlighting everything this new entertainment complex is doing with its space.
Growing the sport of pickleball
The heart of PKL Park is, of course, the eight professional-grade pickleball courts. There will be an on-site shop for all your pickleball-playing needs, and pros available to help you improve your game.
Reserving a court costs $15 per hour in off-peak times + $30 per hour in peak times with a two hour max. Plus, you can explore memberships with perks like access to early reservations and discounts on hourly rates.
Honoring the history
When you walk into the former Mark V Studios, it won’t feel like one of the food concepts of PKL Park — it will feel like a museum. Hop in the sound booth to listen to music recorded at the studio and learn about the history of the property as you explore the installation in partnership with Greenville Music Preservation.
Celebrating local art
Along the wraparound porch, you’ll see three murals from local artists filled with Easter Eggs:
Lacey Hennessey painted a mural honoring the history of the Southernside neighborhood.
Timothy Cunningham painted a mural celebrating the Black Spinners, Greenville’s Negro League Team.
Matteo Miles painted a mural filled with history about Mark V studios.
Click the button below for a deep dive on the pickle-y food + drinks, plus more details ahead of PKL Parks opening.
A. Hitting the courts — watch out for my backhand. B. The food and drinks — those pickle cocktails are calling my name. C. The big screen — watching sports is about to hit different near Unity Park. D. The history — I love how the development paid homage to what came before it.

Spend a fall day like the “Gilmore Girls”
What screams “Gilmore Girls” more than busking on a big porch? | Photo by HP Porchfest
So, what’s the verdict? We are an autumn.“Gilmore Girls” superfans (like City Editor Danielle) easily caught that reference. ‘Tis the season to hit replay on one of our favorite comfort shows, known for its fall vibes as the leaves change in New England.
While Greenville may not be Stars Hollow — and the leaves change a bit later in the season down South — we’ve put together an itinerary inspired by the show so you can live like a Gilmore Girl this fall.
Start your morning at Luke’s, or in our case Vintage Coffee Cafe. This Overbrook coffee shop is a great spot for when you “need coffee in an I.V.” + boasts a food menu that would make Luke and Caesar proud with hot cakes, pastries, salads, and sandwiches.
An easy Halloween costume — snag these Inside Out t-shirts and have the whole family dress up as Disgust, Anger, Anxiety, and your other favorite emotions for a hilarious and topical group look.
The fun doesn’t have to end here. After reading the newsletter, head over to our games page. Games refresh with new challenges every day at 6 a.m. from crossword puzzle to Sudoku to themed word search.
In case you missed it on our Instagram, my friend Julia (longtime readers remember her as our intern back in the day) and I grabbed some festive fall milkshakes from Clare’s Creamery and hit one of Kidding Around Greenville’s Halloween driving tours. My favorite haunted house was 800 W. Earle St.
