October is National Financial Planning Month, so the GVLtoday team recently visited the student-run Greenville Federal Credit Union branch — you read that right.

The Branch at Greer High is fully operational and offers services for students and staff including savings + checking accounts, custom Greer High debit cards, online banking, and more.

Since it opened last year, the branch’s student employees have:

  • Completed the same in-depth training that every Greenville Federal Credit Union employee receives
  • Gained real-world financial literacy skills (think: running operations, managing cash, and opening accounts)
  • Led financial workshops for their peers

So far, 62 students have completed the program, with nine of them landing jobs at Greenville Federal Credit Union.

“I like that I’m gaining real work experience, which not many high-schoolers get,” senior and branch auditor Gracelyn said.

Pro tip: Although The Branch is limited to students and staff, you can visit other Greenville Federal Credit Union locations for all of your financial needs.
