Thursday, we published an old photo of Greenville Memorial Auditorium for Throwback Thursday. Many of you wrote in with your favorite memories of the old amphitheater.

- Our dad sold roses at the concerts in the early 90s at Greenville Memorial Auditorium. My brother and I were still in kindergarten when we helped dad at work whether it was a Metallica, Def Leppard, or Clint Black concert. I might have been the only 5-year old who knew what a mosh-pit was! - Janell Pennington

-My earliest memory of shows I saw in the Big Brown Box was “Holiday on Ice.” It was the “big” show that came in every year in the early 60s. - Steve Farrar

-I saw the picture of the memorial auditorium and it brought back memories! When I was little all of my dance recitals were there and I saw my brother graduate from Riverside High School there as well! - Brittney Kessler

-I remember seeing the circus for the first time and seeing the Village People and many other wonderful shows, such a memorable place. - Michael Stokes

-I now think the site should be turned into a park as a tribute to the wonderful place it was for so many. Do we need to start a “go fund me” page to get this started? GREENville is rapidly losing its GREEN space!!!!!!!!!! Michael Stokes-Not the first concert but the first big time public speaker that I saw was in the Brown Box - it was Vice President Sprio Agnew before he was disgraced and replaced by Jerry Ford. - Steve Farrar

-Deplorable. Seems as if developers are being allowed to build until there is no more “Green” left in Greenville. Feel with each “new project” announced I’m waving goodbye to the city I have loved and been so proud of. Now I can hardly get around in it. Needs to stop. - Kathy Crytser

-Regarding Greenvillle Memorial Auditorium. I was FU student from 1972-76. We played all our home basketball games there. But my best memory is watching on closed circuit tv (today it would be called streaming) the “Trilla from Manila”, the epic fight between Muhummad Ali and Joe Frazier. Went to fight with 5 FU buddies. - George Kerns

-When I was a boy in elementary school my father took me to my first wrestling match at the old Greenville Memorial Auditorium to see Wahoo McDaniel, Superfly Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Rick Flair, and Andre the Giant. Those were the days! - Steve Hall

-Re the Greenville memorial auditorium, the first time I went I was a little kid, maybe 8 years old (1989-1990) with my dad to see Professional wrestling. This is back in the day of Hulk Hogan. This was when they would cut themselves with razors to create blood and intensity in the ring. I remember being so scared and being like, “dad, that guys bleeding everywhere!” I was freaked. Didn’t realize it was part of the show! Fun memory. - Jimmy Sobeck

My first concert was a KISS concert at Greenville Memorial in 1976. Little did I know.. – P.C.

Took my children to Sesame Street Live a few times within the years of 1988 to 1991. Fun but LOUD. – Amy Anderson

I remember Greenville Memorial Auditorium. I went to high school in Hendersonville and we always came to rock concerts here plus wrestling!
I attended the last Lynyrd Skynyrd concert and our group of friends cried when we heard the news of the plane crash! Lots of Kiss and Foghat concerts!
My husband is a Greenville native and we have two of the bricks from the auditorium when they tore it down . . . – Karen Traxler

Memorial Auditorium Memories...sophomore year of high school 1989...spending the night in line outside waiting to buy tickets to the Rolling Stones concert happening at Clemson Death Valley...senior year of high school 1992...backstage passes to meet Skid Row and Pantera. – Amy

Brady Bunch Concert, 1973, my 1st concert @Greenville Memorial Auditorium. – Leora

8 years old and my dance recital for Barbara Selvy Dance Studio...did this every year until 17...I remember the dressing rooms with lights all around the mirrors, the chaos of hundreds of girls getting ready and how huge it seemed when I was little; also saw the Ringling Brother’s Circus several times. – Elise McGee
