Seeing my Instagram feed filled with photos of incredible homes + local architecture got me wondering: How has no one started up a GVL home tour yet?
Since I already spend most of my evenings looking at mid-century and new modern homes, I’ll take you on my own digital tour through town. 🏠
GVL’s mid-century homes
Our crown jewel: Broad Margin is a private residence designed by world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright + made of local cypress wood. The home was completed in 1954 and showcases Wright’s staple features: a massive roof, stone walls + stone chimneys, built-in furniture crafted with local materials. Fun fact: Broad Margin is one of 2 Wright homes in S.C. (there are less than 20 of Wright’s buildings in the Southeast). Click here to see pictures of the home.
Former Mayor Max Heller’s home on Pinehurst Drive in N. Main: Built circa 1955, the home was first owned by former Greenville Mayor Max Heller + his wife, Trude. Heller, who was mayor from 1971 - 79, had a very early vision of transforming GVL into the revitalized destination it is today. The house is recommended for preservation based both on its high degree of architectural integrity and association with local politics and government.
This 15-sided house in Sherwood Forest (off S. Pleasantburg Dr. near Greenville Tech) that features a bold interior. Click here to see more pics.

GVL’s new mods:
Built in 2016, this home near Greenville Memorial Hospital features a flat, slanted roof, deep overhang + smooth finishes. The awesome screened porch on the left side is asking for a cocktail + a rocking chair.
The current owners of this Paris Mountain home say Beau Clowney in Charleston was the home’s architect. It was completed in 2008 and made of concrete, steel, cypress, Brazilian Ipe, natural stone + features walnut floors. The home is 4,500 sq. ft. and yet every single space serves a purpose (and sometimes a dual function).
What we love most: The current owners saw this home listed in GVLtoday, contacted their agent and made an offer within days. We’re pretty hyped about it. Interested in listing your house? Click here.
