It’s official — well, kind of. Greenville is poised to appear in the Michelin Guide for the first time in history. The inaugural American South Guide is set to be unveiled at the Peace Center tonight, Nov. 3, but a news release from Michelin appears to have hit the internet early. You can tune in to the ceremony at 7 p.m.
Scoundrel was the city’s only restaurant to earn a star — one star means it’s “Worth a stop.”
“It’s the hottest table in town, and reservations are a must, though seats at the bar feel far from a consolation prize,” the release says about the Main Street spot.
There are other ways to earn a mention in the guide, and four other local restaurants (and one Charleston spot with a Greenville location) did just that.
Bib Gourmand
Recognizes a high-quality experience at a good value
Lewis Barbecue
Though it’s the Charleston-based restaurant in the guide, Greenville’s location on Rutherford serves the same delicious Texas-style Barbecue.
Recommended restaurants
The chef uses quality ingredients that are well-cooked, and the inspectors have found the food to be above average, but not quite at a star or Bib level
Jianna
The Main Street Italian restaurant — with Chef Michael Kramer at the helm and Advanced Sommelier Andrea Ciavardini managing operations — made the list.
Soby’s
This downtown institution, often considered one of the first to lay the foundation for Greenville as a foodie destination, earned a mention.
The Anchorage
This Village of West Greenville restaurant gets to add a new accolade to its shelf that also includes Semi-Finalist for Best New Restaurant at the 2018 James Beard Awards.
Topsoil
Led by 2020 James Beard Semi-Finalist Chef Adam Cooke, this is the only Travelers Rest restaurant to land in the guide, known for its seasonally inspired menus using fresh, local ingredients.
