The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has plans for some safety updates to Poinsett Highway + River and Richardson Streets.

Let’s hop honk to it and take a look at the proposed changes.

Poinsett Highway

  • Landscape + concrete medians with a barrier to prevent pedestrian crossings.
  • High-visibility crosswalks and mid-block crosswalks

Final plans should be done in 2025, after SCDOT collects public comments, with construction beginning in 2026.

River and Richardson Streets

  • A two-way bicycle track along the north side
  • High-visibility pedestrian crosswalks

SCDOT also suggested lowering the speed limit to 25 mph. After comments are collected, final designs will be done in the fall + construction should begin in 2025.
