We know you’ve seen it: that par 3 course along 385 + across from the Greenville downtown airport. You may have even played it; it’s a bit of GVL staple. It’s about to get a massive facelift, and we’re totally *fore* it.

A look back: Cross Winds Golf Course – an 18-hole par 3 – has been in biz since 1997. Some pretty awesome course architects were involved in the original design: Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, Rees Jones, Arnold Palmer Design and Jay Haas (to name a few).

Now, a new proposal by the course’s new owner, Davis Sezna (the former CEO of The Cliffs Communities and former managing partner of The Heritage Golf Group) to upgrade facilities and add entertainment could make it one of GVL’s best hangout spots - even for those of us who aren’t scratch golfers, or not even close. The proposed $2.5 million project will create a new, two-story, 5,530 sq. ft. clubhouse to replace the existing and dated check-in building.

Score Card:

🍸 The clubhouse will house a full-service restaurant + bar on the lower level with glass walls and a wrap-around porch

🛬 A chic rooftop deck with plenty of seating (you’ll feel like you can touch the planes as they descend into the airport)

🏌‍ The rooftop will also feature a tee box that’ll be directed towards a hole separate from the course itself, but still within the chipping practice area.

🏗 The course will remain relatively unchanged: only one hole near the clubhouse will require minor alterations to accommodate an expanded parking lot

⛳ Each hole will be insured for hole-in-one prizes

🔉 Golf carts will have bluetooth wireless speakers

⏰ Course hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. // While restaurant hours will be 8 a.m. – 12 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. – 12 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Cross Winds also plans to host various organizations, like the Boys and Girls Club of America, The First Tee of the Upstate, as well as children + adult golf clinics.

The height of the new clubhouse totals 25 feet, which doesn’t obstruct the airport’s glide path. The FAA has also approved the plans.
