The Path to Progress is now open at Unity Park

Highlighting the history of the land where Unity Park sits today, The Path to Progress sits in the center of the park right along the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.

The next time you’re strolling, running, or cycling through Unity Park, you’ll see a new installation along the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Path to Progress — located near the ongoing construction of the Honor Tower — tells the history of the land where Unity Park sits today.

As you stop to read the markers, you’ll learn about:

  • The Reedy River’s role in the early development and textile boom
  • How the railroads continued Greenville’s growth + gave the Swamp Rabbit its nickname
  • The establishment of the West Greenville and Southernside communities
  • The history of Meadowbrook + Mayberry, the segregated parks that sat on this land
  • The decades-long process to make Unity Park a reality

As for the ongoing construction at the park, work continues on Mayberry Field + signage says Honor Tower will open in summer 2025.
