Our cities are about to get smarter

Greenville’s South Carolina Technology & Aviation Center is planning to create a hub of tech companies to work on developing + designing “smart cities” (think self-driving cars and crosswalks that react in real time to pedestrians). 100+ technology companies could collaborate to make cities safer + more ergonomic at the expected 500 million sq. ft. development.

Tom Klein, CEO of Smart City 2020, said that he wants companies to step outside their comfort zones to create innovative, large-scale change. Collaboration is key – companies who have tried to go it alone haven’t been able to achieve the massive infrastructure change needed to totally re-shape how our cities work with us.

The park itself will implement some of the smart city ideas it wants to build on, like “mobility hubs” transporting employees in shared vehicles and a “shared economy” system that minimizes warehouses. Basically, Tomorrowland is coming to GVL.
