There are no boring apps at this gem of a stop in Raleigh, N.C. Hummingbird is a darling reuse projectthink the reimagining of Krog Street in Atlanta or Willy Taco Feed & Seed in Greenville. The original green tile and yellow clad stools will make you happy but the nosh is over the top fresh, modern and delish.

Order the buffalo frog legs with blue cheese smear. They are fantastic, meaty and pair with any of the apt cocktails and, of course, the charred buttered oysters at Hummingbird. The owner spent a decade in New Orleans and it shows on her menu and behind the bar in the friendly, ingredient-driven offerings.

This small footprint restaurant by the beloved proprietor, Coleen Speaks, has just a handful of indoor tables. There’re at least a dozen seats at the bar and a bunch more on the covered deck. It feels much more like the approachable restaurants of Southern California, but it’s right here in the Carolinas. Put in on your #BucketDish for sure.
