The Berea Middle School off of White Horse Road was completed in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration and served as Greenville’s Technological College campus before it was relocated.

Now, Legacy Early College is looking to acquire the middle school campus in hopes of expansion. Legacy which is nearing capacity with 1,350 students, wants to demolish the old (BMS) building and construct a new school with a façade that is essentially same as the old elementary school. Greenville County Council members met on the subject, where six councilmen voted yes, and five voted no, but due to the lack of 7 yes-votes, it has caused a drawback in the transaction. Councilman Willis Meadows recused himself from the vote as his son works with the firm that audits the school.

However, council rules allow those on the winning side to ask that the previous vote be reconsidered at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
