YMCA of Greenville’s After School programs: 2020-21 school year

Number: 98,111. The number of S.C. students (K-12) currently enrolled in afterschool programs. For many parents, these programs are win-win: their child has a safe place to go after school, and they get to learn + have fun during that time.

YMCA of Greenville After School offers after-school programs for elementary + middle school students (with pickup from 50+ local schools), using Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets in all activities – from arts to academics to fitness. And good news for early birds: Registration is now open for 2020-21 after-school programs.

Here’s the need-to-know info for parents:

Cost 💰

  • At most branches, costs are:
  • 5 days per week: $57/week for Y members + $85/week for non-members
  • 3 days per week: $35/week for Y members + $51/week for non-members
  • Financial aid is available.
  • There is a one-time registration fee of $50 for Y members.
  • Payment is due each Friday for the following week + is required regardless of attendance.
  • If you need to cancel, written notice needs to be submitted two weeks before a child’s last day in the program.

  • The programs offer pickup from 50+ local schools (full list here).
  • Programs are held at the following branches:
    • Caine Halter Family Y
    • YMCA Program Center (Simpsonville)
    • Eastside Family Y
    • George I. Theisen Family Y
    • YMCA Judson Community Center

Dates + hours 📆

  • YMCA after-school programs operate on the Greenville County school calendar, running Monday-Friday from school dismissal until 6 p.m.
  • For teacher workdays + school holidays, the Y offers School’s Out Special (SOS) Camp.
    • After School payments for those weeks that school is in session are prorated and parents can purchase care for only the days needed.
    • Days can be purchased as a package or individually for Winter Break + Spring Break.
  • What about snow days? Hey, it could happen. All-day care will be available for children participating in the After School program as long as the Y is open + staff can get to work safely. There is no additional cost for all-day care on snow days.

Bring/don’t bring

  • 👍 Healthy snacks are provided daily, but families are permitted to send additional healthy snacks from home. Kids are also encouraged to bring their homework as they can have homework assistance from their After School counselors.
  • 👎 Kids should leave toys, trading cards, video games, iPods, phones + gaming systems at home. If a child is sent to the Y with one of these items, it must remain in their book bag.
