DYK January is National Mentoring Month? Spearheaded by Mentor, it gives mentoring programs an opportunity to focus on + celebrate their work – including the impactful work that the YMCA of Greenville is doing with Upstate youth in the Y Teen Achievers program.

A signature program of YUSA, The Y Teen Achievers program connects volunteer mentors with Greenville high school students to provide those students with useful tools + additional knowledge to help them graduate high school and create a post-high school plan that they can work toward and be proud of.

The program is implemented at Southside High + JL Mann Academy, partnering with teachers and school staff to identify students that are not on track to graduate high school, living in poverty or need additional support. Volunteers work with this small group of students to implement a brain-based curriculum to support them.

The Y offers the program free of charge to schools and students, thanks to organizations like Michelin and the United Way of Greenville, as well as individual donors that give during the Y’s Annual Campaign. If you’re interested in supporting this cause, you can donate here.
