Yes, you read that right: We said Back to School. 😱

Fourth of July has come and gone, meaning it’s officially that time of Summer when we’re going to start seeing those back-to-school commercials, thinking about new teachers and picking up fresh backpack supplies. In fact, we have just about a month until Greenville County Schools are back in session on August 20. Whether you’re counting down the days or wondering how the summer slipped by so quickly, that date isn’t budging.

We know the #BackToSchool season can be stressful for parents, filled with shopping for supplies, calming kids’ nerves + figuring out your plans for after school childcare. So, we’d like to take one thing off your plate.

YMCA of Greenville After School offers after school programs for elementary + middle school students (with pickup from 50+ local schools), using Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets in all activities – from arts to academics to fitness. At most branches, the cost is only $57/week for Y members + $85/week for non-members, and financial aid is available. And good news for the early birds: Registration for the 2019-20 school year is now open.

  • This might just be your primary concern in choosing afterschool care. A family’s gotta budget.

    • After School payments for those weeks that school is in session are prorated and parents can purchase care for only the days needed.
    • Days can be purchased as a package or individually for Winter Break + Spring Break.
  • What about snow days? Hey, it could happen. All-day care will be available for children participating in the After School program as long as the Y is open + staff can get to work safely. There is no additional cost for all-day care on snow days.

Bring/don’t bring

  • 👍 Healthy snacks are provided daily, but families are permitted to send additional healthy snacks from home. Kids are also encouraged to bring their homework as they can have homework assistance from their After School counselors.
  • 👎 Kids should leave toys, trading cards, video games, iPods, phones + gaming systems at home. If a child is sent to the Y with one of these items, it must remain in their book bag.
