The updated plans for the Wyche Pavilion restoration

In 2017, the Peace Center presented their proposed master plan to the Greenville City Council, which included renovations of the Roe Coach Factory, plus two other buildings on Main Street: the Markley + the Gullick. The first phase of this larger master plan included the restoration of the Wyche Pavilion.

On July 9, the City of Greenville’s Design Review Board will be holding a meeting at 4 p.m. in City Hall to discuss the project.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • The Peace Center has changed its plans for the restoration, hence the need for the meeting on July 9.
  • The July 9 meeting follows a public hearing held back in February, where the Design Review Board shared some recommendations on the Wyche restoration plans. The design was updated based on this feedback – the goal is to preserve the elements needed to turn the pavilion into a fully functioning venue, while also not overpowering the existing Pavilion.
  • Megan Riegel, Peace Center President + CEO, says, “Together we’ve found solutions to enhance the public park along the river from Broad Street to Falls Park and at the same time preserve and activate one of our privately-owned buildings…We look forward to a time when the Wyche reaches its full potential, offering year-round concerts, community engagement programs, lectures and events of all kinds.”
  • The new design will be created by Summerour and Associates. Elements will include an emphasis on the iconic shell of the Wyche, custom-made windows + doors, wooden floors + ceiling fans, plus lighting and an HVAC system which will allow the pavilion to be used year-round.

That’s all for now, but we’ll be sure to share the updated info with you after the meeting
