Will SC drivers pay $60 more at the pump?

Go Upstate
The S.C. House budget committee are considering raising gas taxes and other driving-related fees in Columbia this week.

Keep in mind, S.C. lawmakers have not raised driving fees for over 30 years. And if you remember from last year, the state Senate tried to increase gas taxes with no avail.

Lawmakers are trying again this year with a bill which proposes upping prices 10 cents per gallon over five years, which would cost about $60 a year, for a driver who travels 15,000 miles annually in a vehicle which averages 25 miles per gallon.

Other proposed costs include a one-time fee of up to $250 to register an out-of-state vehicle to South Carolina, a $16 fee every two years to register a vehicle.
