Unless you’re Serena van der Woodsen, finding something to wear to semi-formal events might not be your strong suit. An avid Peace Center + Warehouse Theatre goer, I’ve put together some favorites from past shows.

Sparkly Jumpsuit

I know everyone always says “comfort is key” but it couldn’t be more true for the theatre. The first time I wore this sparkly gold jumpsuit from Monkee’s of the West End I was pleasantly surprised at how much more comfortable it was than the dresses I would generally wear. Although it might’ve looked like a step up in the semi-formal world, it didn’t feel anymore fussy than pajamas. This outfit certainly grabbed attention and I got an unexpected amount of compliments from strangers at Beautiful: The Carole King musical. To be honest, I hadn’t felt this pretty since my wedding day.

Snake Print Dress

If you’re still going for a dress, I recommend one that moves well that won’t wrinkle. This bodycon snake print from Rockerbelles did just that for going to Aladdin and I would definitely wear this to the Warehouse Theatre, too! What I love most about this fun print is I can dress it up to go out, or dress it down for a sunny, outdoor event (Gather GVL, anyone?). For now it’s still in stock, so you can wear it to the next show!

Velvet Jumpsuit + Leopard Coat

The hardest thing I’ve found about weather appropriate fanciness for the theatre is a good coat. I can get all dressed up just to ruin the outfit with a plain sweater. At the West End Warehouse Sale in January I was stoked to find this leopard coat to go with this black velvet jumpsuit, both from J. Britt. Like the sparkly jumpsuit, this was definitely a conversation starter too, and kept me warm on the windy walk to and from the Westin parking garage to see My Fair Lady.

Thanks to Greenville’s plethora of boutiques, I’m proud to shop local when I need a dazzling outfit. What would you wear?
