Bess and Emily here (aka the Six & Main team). We recently hit the pool for an Aqua Fit Class at the YMCA of Greenville. This dynamic, low-impact workout got our hearts pumping and was the perfect group exercise class for all ages, strengths + abilities. Keep reading for how you can Try This.

What we tried:

Aqua Fit is just one of the many aquatics offerings from the YMCA of Greenville. We took a morning class at the Eastside YMCA with Karen. Did you know? All of the group exercise instructors and trainers are certified in different exercise styles.

Karen put us to work, starting with a warm up and increasing in intensity (but never too intense) for 45 minutes. We chose the class in the shallow end, but if you’re looking for a different experience, you can check out the deep water classes.

What not to miss:

You can’t miss the benefits of aqua fitness, and you don’t need to be Michael Phelps to hit the pool for a good workout.

As you work out during the Aqua Fit class, your pulse and breathing rate gently increase, which is great for your heart health. Plus, water workouts strengthen and tone muscles as the resistance of the water works opposing muscle groups as you push and pull with each movement.

What we’re still talking about:

We can’t stop talking about how challenging the workout was — in a good way. Water fitness offers a low-risk environment to move your body, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Don’t let that scare you away. It was a great workout — plus, you can modify exercises to best fit your exercise level.
