Rachel here. I’m an Account Manager at 6AM City, and last week I tried the YMCA of Greenville’s new Virtual Y Platform. Over the week, I was able to try out four different online classes at my own pace. Let me show you how it works.

What we tried (with pricing):

The platform (available on web and mobile) is free for Y members. Not a member? Learn more about how to become a member and access these classes here.

The Grit 34 Athletic class would be great for anyone missing their days as a high school or college athlete. | Photo by the GVLtoday team

First up, I attempted the Grit 34 Athletic class. This one was tough. I recommend coming to class prepared to sweat before hitting “play.” This class was full of constant movement where I worked on my agilityand worked up a sweat.

Pro tip: Try this class outdoors. I started it inside and had to move to our back porch for some fresh air.

I started my Sunday morning with a BodyFlow 90 yoga class. (Read: The perfect way to start a Sunday.) It woke me up and set a relaxing tone for my day — no Sunday scaries here.

Confession time: I’ve never taken a yoga class before, so this one was a treat. I gained a lot of respect for people who frequent yoga classes. I actually enjoyed it so much that I did a second class on my lunch break at work later that week.

What not to miss:

The main thing that stood out to me was that I had unlimited options. The video library is updated with brand-new content every 3 months, so there’s always new classes to try. Whether you feel like breaking out a sweat or chilling out with some yoga, it’s all there for you. My favorite thing? You can sort classes by type of workout.

What we’re still talking about:

My husband Sean and I will have a lazy Sunday on a typical weekend. On Sunday evening, we’re hit by Sunday scaries + anxiety about the fact that we were so lazy during the day.

To change our routine, we worked out together on Friday afternoon + Sunday morning. Ultimately, we got off the couch because we needed nothing but a yoga mat and some space to do most of these workouts.

How you can experience this:

When you sign onto the Virtual Y platform, everything is straightforward. Navigating to the Virtual Y was a piece of cake compared to the classes I took. The best part? You can download the app on your phone or log in online using your laptop. Getting to the gym has always been the most challenging part for me. I loved how easy it was to access the Virtual Y app.

Things to know if you go:

Pro tip: Do these workouts with your dogs — they have fun too. | Photo by the GVLtoday team

Depending on the class you take, you may need some equipment (read: a yoga mat). I made the most of some typical “around the house” items for things I didn’t have.
