City Editor Danielle here. From flat breads, salads + sandwiches to, dare I say, the best brunch I’ve ever had, here’s how you can Try This.

What we tried (with pricing):

Village Kitchen offers an all-day menu Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. I tried the Spring Harvest salad ($16) and the Fig and Pig flatbread ($17.50) — both were colorful and fresh. Fun fact: Though items like the Fig and Pig are menu staples, you may see some ingredients change seasonally to ensure everything is as fresh as possible.

Chef Tanner Marino says his favorite menu item can only be ordered on Sunday during brunch: the chicken and waffles ($20), available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Whether you’re stopping in for mid-week lunch or swinging by for an after work bite, the atmosphere is inviting — plus, you’ll leave learning about the history of Hartness.

What not to miss:

Aside from the great food, you’ll find nods to the Hartness legacy, including a mural of Tom Hartness + vintage glass Pepsi bottles.

What we’re still talking about:

Aside from talking about how good those chicken and waffles were, I’m telling everyone about Chef Tanner’s ability to make fresh, allergy-friendly food that tastes so good. Would you believe me if I told you the chicken and waffles are gluten-free and dairy free?

Chef Tanner says there’s a stigma around allergy-friendly dishes + a misconception they won’t be as good as the “real thing.” He tells me he’s proud to have made good food for everyone to enjoy, no matter their dietary restrictions.

“My mom has celiac disease and she pretty much eats a salad everywhere we go. I took her to Village Kitchen and now she wants to go to brunch every time she’s in town for a visit.
