Over the past few weeks, we have talked through three of four project categories under the $36 million Neighborhood Infrastructure Bond:

Today, we’re talking about the fourth: traffic management.

When you think of traffic management, what comes to mind? You might have thought of street lights, but have you ever considered equipment like traffic counters, cameras, and travel time monitoring? Of the $36 million bond, $4 million will cover seven traffic management projects that kick off this spring and through this fall:

Equipment | $2,150,000 | Spring-fall 2022

Equipment like permanent + mobile traffic count stations can assist with things like road designs and safety, while video monitoring cameras and signal detection cameras can help with monitoring various intersections.

Technology | $1,700,000 | Spring-summer 2022

Under this category, 100 devices will be installed to monitor travel times, allowing for a better understanding of which sections need better traffic signal operations. Plus, equipping traffic light signal cabinets (which contain the technology that controls traffic signals — when the light turns green, yellow, and red) with emergency vehicle preemption will help set green lights for emergency responders.
