#TBT: What township would you have lived in during 1882?

Back in 1882, Greenville County was made up by more than a dozen townships. In fact, there were 16. Today, there are 16 “census-designated places”, six cities + two unincorporated communities in the County. We came across these townships via a map from 1882, which shows the boundaries for the different areas.

We’re history buffs here at GVLtoday – and find a lot of interesting info in the Facebook group “Greenville SC Natives” including this gem. Then, we learned that the original is housed digitally via the Library of Congress, and free to download. Bonus: Amazon sells a high-quality version of this map for $14.89.

Many of the names are obvious, such as Paris Mtn. (the mountain was named by Richard Pearis in 1770) + Saluda (likely after the area river). Here’s the full list of the township names. Scroll down to let us know which one you live in –
