Thanksgiving is in three days, and we can already smell the turkey. Or ham. Or tofurkey. Or just a table full of sides + pies. But don’t put the drinks on the backburner – beverages can be just as important as the main dish to make a Thanksgiving meal complete.

With help from Robin Martz, Operating Partner at Chophouse ‘47, we’ve put together a list of drink pairings for every dish on the Thanksgiving table – from a welcome cocktail to a nightcap to pair with your pie. We’re not at the kids’ table anymore, folks.

Meet + greet cocktail recommendations 🥂

  • Any style of sparkling wine (prosecco, champagne, or a California sparkling wine). Or go alcohol-free with a sparkling water garnished with some floating cranberries.
  • Want more of a kick? Try serving a Barrel-Aged Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned, similar to the one on Chophouse ‘47’s cocktail list. Recipe here.

Appetizer pairings 🧀

  • A crisp, well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc, like Hourglass Estate from Calistoga, goes well with light apps like cheese + crackers.
  • Prefer red wine? Try Emeritus, a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

Salad + soup pairings 🥗

  • With salad, try a lighter beer, like a pilsner. Mama’s Little Yella Pils from Oskar Blues is a great choice.
  • With soup, try a complex + aromatic Saison Dupont.

Entrée pairings 🍽️

  • You can’t go wrong with tradition varietals like Cabernet + Chardonnay to pair with your main course, but if you want to *really* add some spice to your meal, try a Red Zinfandel from Canard Vineyards.
  • Prefer white wine? A Riesling from Alsace – Famille Hugel (served at Chophouse ‘47) is a great option.

Dessert pairings 🥧

  • Dessert calls for a dessert wine, like a 20-year Tawny Port from Taylor Fladgate.
  • Want to finish like you started? Try a Gentleman Jack from Jack Daniels, served with a large ice cube.
