Swimming is a life skill. Yet ~64% of African-American children, ~45% of Hispanic children and ~40% of Caucasian children have no or low swimming ability, putting them at risk for drowning.

As the spring and summer months approach (and the countdown begins to weekends on Lake Keowee), teaching your children to swim is something to strongly consider.

Luckily, the YMCA of Greenville offers affordable, non-competitive swim lessons for every age. Sessions range from mini-sessions to 8-week sessions to private lessons, with several sessions happening all year long.

Here are a few of their offerings:

  • Parent & Child Lessons: Water Discovery (6-18 months), Water Exploration (18-36 months)
  • Pre-School Swim Lessons (ages 3-5): Water Acclimation, Water Movement, Water Stamina, Stroke Introduction
  • Youth Swim Lessons (ages 6-14): Water Acclimation & Movement, Water Stamina & Stroke Introduction, Stroke Development, Stroke Mechanics
  • Adult Classes: Swim Basics (first timers), Swim Strokes (improve techniques)
  • Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons: Available by appointment with the purchase of a private swim lesson package

Click here to see details for all lessons and to learn more about the next two upcoming sessions – Spring II (March 30-May 30) and the free-for-all Water Safety Week (happening during Greenville County Schools Spring Break, April 13-17) – with registration open now.
