One of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received regarding the coronavirus so far has been, “Can you let us know which local grocery stores will offer hours just for seniors?”

You asked, we’re here to answer.

National chains with Upstate locations

A number of national chains with Upstate locations have started implementing senior shopping hours. Here are a few:

Whole Foods, 1140 Woodruff Rd.
From 7-8 a.m. every day, shopping will be reserved for customers 60+.

Target, find your nearest location here
From 8-9 a.m. on Wednesdays, shopping will be reserved for elderly guests and those with underlying health concerns. Online shopping with curbside pickup is also available.

Publix, find your nearest location here
From 7-8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (starting March 24), shopping will be reserved for customers 65+.

Local businesses

Local businesses are jumping on board with the concept, too. While these businesses aren’t currently offering senior-only shopping hours – they do have options in place that allow seniors (and the general public) to shop for groceries without having to enter a store:

Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery, 205 Cedar Lane Rd.
You can now order groceries online, by email, or by calling the store + pick them up curbside.

The Anchorage, 586 Perry Ave.
This restaurant in the Village of West Greenville has launched an online marketplace where shoppers can purchase pantry goods and produce (along with wine and prepared foods) + pick them up curbside.

Additional resources

While we’re on the subject, there are a few other Upstate organizations helping to serve the food needs of local seniors, while practicing social distancing:

Senior Action, find your nearest location here
Senior Action is serving lunches for its members at six drive-thru stations across the Upstate. Senior Action will also be delivering meals to members who normally rely on the organization for transportation.

SENIOR Solutions, find your nearest location here
While its senior centers are closed, SENIOR Solutions will continue to offer home-delivered meals – as well as non-emergency medical trips and personal care aides.

We know you guys have a lot more questions regarding the impact of the coronavirus on our community + resources that are available. Ask your questions here, and we’ll do our best to keep finding answers.

In the meantime, do you know of other Upstate resources that are helping seniors with access to groceries? Or groups that are providing any other type of support for seniors during this time? Use the prompt below to let us know.
