Self defense classes for any skill level

90% of learning how to stay safe comes from the ability to be aware, confident + knowledgeable in any given situation.

And those things are a result of being prepared – which is where self-defense classes come in. They’re about more than just knowing how to stop someone from stealing your wallet.

Taking a self-defense course can also help…

  • Sharpen your reflexes (and handle high-pressure situations)
  • Build quick decision-making skills
  • Develop assertiveness
  • Build your confidence
  • Increase your patience + decrease stress
  • Provide a solid workout (if you’re looking for that, too)

There are plenty of self-defense classes offered in Greenville – and don’t feel intimidated about trying one for the first time.

These classes are meant for anyone who wants to add a few skills to their toolbox, whether that means being physically prepared or being able to judge when to leave a situation.

Women’s Self Defense Classes | Carolina Karate | Every Monday at 6 p.m. | $40/month or $15/class | Age 14+ | A beginner class for all fitness levels focused on personal protection, awareness of your surroundings, home security + practical self-defense techniques

Individualized Self-Defense Classes | Alexander Family Karate | Mon., Wed. and Fri. at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. | 3 different short-term adult classes, including women’s self-defense, short term street defense, and specialty classes in various striking and grappling arts

Women’s Self Defense Course | Donjitsu Do Dojo | Once a week for 4 – 6 weeks | A 2-hour hands-on, scenario-based course | Private self-defense courses also available

Self Defense Classes (Adults + Kids) | Huggins Tae Kwon Do Academy | Tactics and methods that emphasize keeping you safe + de-escalating a dangerous situation before violence can occur

Nihon Goshin Aikido Self-Defense Classes | Bushido Academy | A wide range of techniques, like strikes, blocks, joint locks, throws, weapons defense, nerve pressure point, vital target striking + the practical applications for different scenarios, designed for real life situations and used by law enforcement

Children’s Self Defense Classes | Beckham Martial Arts & Fitness | Age 4 – 6: Mon. + Wed. 5 – 6 p.m. (alternating Saturdays | Age 7 – 12: Tues. + Thurs. 4 – 5 p.m. or 5 – 6 p.m. (first and third Saturdays) | $85/month age 4 – 7, $100/month age 8+ (2+ kids from same family get a discount) | Teaches balance, stamina, and strength + self-esteem and confidence

Ideally, you’ll leave a self-defense class knowing you have options to defend yourself if you need them, techniques for approaching a situation + the skills to analyze whether you’re in danger and how to respond.

Stay safe out there, GVL.
