The city of Greenville’s picketing ordinance: “People can’t hold flags on poles longer than 42 inches long, must be 1 inch around and can’t be metal.” The South Carolina Secessionist Party – a “pro-heritage group” – submitted a letter to Mayor Knox White Monday, claiming that the city handles free speech discriminatorily. During this past weekend’s Pride event, many people held onto flags that fit into that “banned criteria” and we’rent asked to be removed, the letter says. They say they were told they couldn’t have the Confederate flag displayed on top of a parking garage during the NCAA March Madness tournament at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena earlier this year. “We don’t feel the police should have done anything to them, but we don’t feel they should have done anything to us either,” the letter says. “It seems to us like we were targeted.” |
