#RealGVLMom - A New Normal

I remember my first “car phone.” Yep, that’s what we called it. It was in a bag, zipped up, hidden under the seat, only to be used in emergencies. It’s crazy how something that was such a novelty has become something we cannot function without.

This week, Greenville installed South Carolina’s first protected bike lane. While it may seem like a novelty to some, only useful in rare situations, I’d like to think it’s a nod to our not so distant future. Greenville is a bike friendly city and a protected bike lane is a step in the right direction to show our commitment to the evolution and growth of our city, and what that means for how we get around.

My emergency phone in a bag became something that stays in my pocket no matter where I go. I hope our new protected bike lane becomes something, in a few years, that is just an expected part of how we design our City. Let’s embrace our new normal, on two wheels!
