I am from waaaaay out of town. I grew up on a farm in South Dakota, and spent a number of years including college, in Minnesota as well. My husband is from here (Simpsonville!), and basically his climate wins ;) We moved back down here from MN almost five years ago. While my love for Minnesota will always run deep, I just don’t miss those long, nasty upper-Midwestern winters. Truth be told, I would be a snowbird if I could! Winter in the South, Summer in the Midwest, sounds just about perfect. - Jen K.

I love living in Greenville! We moved here for work, not realizing how amazing this city would be. We are in love! The growth opportunities are endless. It’s such a fun, exciting city- we rarely want to go on vacation!! It’s a vacation right here! - Diana B.

My husband and I moved here from Orlando, FL last year. About 12 years ago, my aunt and uncle relocated to Greenville, SC from Orlando. The first year they were here they asked to host the family reunion (about 40 of us) in their house and clubhouse. They took us all over the city: to the Liberty Bridge, Spill the Beans, etc. Ever since then I had it in my mind that I wanted to move here. Much of the family relocated here including 3 of my siblings, another aunt and uncle, Grandma and multiple cousins over the years. We are so happy to be out of the immense heat and humidity of FL and enjoy 4 seasons. I also love all the local foodie joints - there are mostly chain restaurants near the tourist areas of south Orlando. Now I just need to convince my parents to move here. They are the last ones left in FL. - Tiffany

I have chosen to relocate to upstate SC twice. Both were pretty much for the same reason, opportunities. The first time I moved to SC was from NC to attend Clemson University in 2007. A big part of why I chose Clemson was because of their cooperative education program and the opportunity to work with excellent companies like Milliken, Michelin, BMW and others. When I graduated in 2012 I moved to NY for a job. For the whole 6 years, I was gone the upstate was calling me back. I looked around for 3 years before I took a job with Sunland Logistics Solutions in Simpsonville and relocated from PA in April 2018. I couldn’t stay away any longer. I felt like I was missing out. All the companies relocating to SC, the revitalized buildings, and parks. Greenville has a great restaurant and art scene. The people are so welcoming and committed to making the upstate a great place to live. I wanted to move to the upstate to plant roots for my career and my future family. P.S. I talked my boyfriend into moving with me. He has never lived anywhere outside PA. I’m sure he will look back on this move as one of the best choices he has ever made. I know because I’ve done it twice! - Amy S.

What brought me here: Retirement - I lived my entire life in Berkshire County, Mass. My brother and sister-in-law lived in Bennington County, VT. The winters are, long and cold and they just go on forever. Spring really doesn’t come up there until early May, and it comes in fits and starts. They asked me if I’d like to join them when it was my time to retire. We started looking and made quite a few trips to Greenville and surrounding area, including Asheville and Hendersonville, NC and Tellico Village in TN. Our choice was Greenville due to the beautiful downtown, including Fluor Field and the Greenville Drive. We also chose Greenville due to the weather and its location away from the coast. We can still see mountains here, which is important to me. I remember visiting the CVS in TR for the first time and looking out at the panoramic view of the mountains.

We came here, in retirement, 19 years ago. I wanted FL, my husband the mountains. We love it here, the friendly people, the weather, the medical community, and the food. We moved into a golf community north of the city. It’s wonderful seeing the transformation of Travelers Rest. Also love the Peace Center, Little Theatre, Center Stage, and Flat Rock Play House. The lakes are wonderful. What’s not to like here? - Barb G.

My husband, Ed, and I moved here in 2001 for our jobs. The Camperdown Bridge still covered what is now Falls Park and downtown was improving, but, a guard always walked me to my car at night (I worked for The Greenville News). Through the last 16 years, we’ve watched Greenville grow, grow, grow! But, the charm is still there and that is what made us stay here. In late 2014, Ed and I had to make a decision whether to move or start our own business here. Which do you think we chose?? We own Adroit Systems Company (adroitsys.net), just purchased a 5,000 square foot building off of Poinsett Hwy and intend to stay and enjoy the continued growth in our area. Love this city! - Angie H.

Originally from NH, lived in OK for the last 10 years. Came and visited two years ago for a vacation and fell in love with the downtown and Falls Park. We visited two more times and did research on the area for two years before finally deciding to move our family here. It is an innovative, forward-thinking city that is not afraid to take risks to ensure future prosperity. That’s a city I want to live in and work in. Now we just need to solve the Woodruff Road traffic issue! #yeahTHATgreenville - Dustin T.

I felt so welcomed by so many people, even the SC DOT welcomed me so warmly. We live outside of the city limits just south of Traveler’s Rest and can walk and bike there via: the Swamp Rabbit Trail. We love TR and the downtown area including restaurants, physicians and our favorite hair stylist. The Farmer’s Market at Trailblazer Park and the other events there are such a treat. We are happy to be here.
