Pokerito at Pokenori in Downtown Spartanburg

I waited and waited (and waited) for the Hawaiian concept of burrito shaped tuna poke to come our way and it finally has in downtown Spartanburg. Pokenori is a gem of a spot for lunch or dinner replete with poke bowls and my much-desired pokeritos.

A machine presses out sushi rice into a tablet shape, nori is patted on top before it is flipped over and filled with whatever ingredients your heart desires including sauce choices and marinades (go for spicy ginger with tuna, mango and romaine). This is all wrapped in parchment paper and handed over for less than $10. Talk about clean eating!

The folks at Pokenori make a mean poke bowl too that’s really big enough for two meals and offer stellar Asian beer and soju options. Head to Sparkle City and ask proprietors Nicole and Benny for suggestions on where to start on your poke road. Warning: poke is highly addictive.
