South Carolina boasts great numbers in terms of job growth, cost of living, and craft breweries per capita, but one not-so-great statistic is being ranked #12 in obesity nationwide.

While several factors go into determining one’s overall health, obesity is traditionally defined by your BMI (body mass index). Find out what your BMI is here. Luckily, Greenville offers some great options for staying fit + improving your health.

Here are three common #FitMyths, debunked, to help you become your healthiest self:

1️⃣#FitMyth One: Working out is expensive.

You don’t need to spend an arm and a leg (or a glute, or an ab) on a gym membership to get fit. There are plenty of affordable running, group fitness, and yoga class options around town under $10 – and some even involve a post-workout beer. (Hey, it’s all about balance.) Here are 10 cheap workouts to try.

2️⃣#FitMyth Two: Healthy food is sad and boring.

You don’t need to live the Popeye lifestyle + eat nothing but spinach to get healthy. (In fact, we recommend you definitely don’t do that.) There are a ton of local smoothie + salad places around town that are not only healthy, but in our opinion, delicious. Here’s our list of must-try’s.

3️⃣#FitMyth Three: Cool, but I don’t have time.

You’re busy. Fitting in an exercise routine can be difficult, and not all of us are made to wake up at 5 a.m. and hit the gym on a daily basis. Enter: the Internet, specifically, programs like Prisma Health’s MoveWell. The program posts workouts monthly; designed for all fitness levels + aimed to help you kick off a productive home workout regimen. See their playlist on YouTube. Even if you don’t have time for a full workout, work some movement into your busy day with Mini MoveWells like the Office Chair Yoga Break. Check them all out here.
