Two big names, one new building. Methodical Coffee and Golden Brown & Delicious have both announced that they will have locations in The Commons. Here’s what we know so far about the new digs.

To refresh your memory, The Commons (147 Wellborn St.) is a community marketplace of local merchants. First announced back in 2015, The Commons is housed in a renovated 71-year-old warehouse building within the site of the future Unity Park. It sits along the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, near Soul Yoga + El Thrifty Social Club.

Methodical Coffee

A few days ago – Marco Suarez, co-owner of Methodical Coffee, posted this behind-the-scenes shot of his “third coffee shop.”

Methodical Coffee currently has two locations in town – the downtown cafe at 101 N Main St. and the Landmark cafe at 207 Wade Hampton Blvd. Methodical Coffee’s website confirms a third location is coming to The Commons this fall.

The new Methodical Coffee location is expected to house their roasting operations. The site will also be focused on education – with a “public cuppings area” that allows customers to learn about coffee + the roasting process. The full-scale cafe is also expected to have an expanded focus on food.

The team is aiming to open mid-November.

Golden Brown & Delicious (GB&D)

Yesterday, Golden Brown & Delicious announced that they will be relocating to The Commons from the Village of West Greenville (with an exact date to be released in the next week). Their current space in the Village will remain a restaurant – an extension of Bar Mars with a deli for lunch service – and will still be owned by Alex George (who is behind GB&D + Bar Mars).

GB&D serves a changing menu of American cuisine. We recommend the chicken sandwich, the Just Beet It Salad + the mac & cheese. All of their food is made with locally sourced ingredients – supporting local farms, dairies + suppliers.

They’ve called the Village home for the last 4 years, and were some of the first tenants in what we know now as the Village – where his sister, owner of Village Grind + his dad, owner of Carol’s Ice Cream – will keep their locations. In the Instagram post announcing the move Chef Alex George, said “I like the location. I love the people. I believe I can create something even more special in this new space.”

The Commons’ website confirms that Methodical Coffee and Golden Brown & Delicious will be two of five food + bev merchants that will be featured in their 12,000 sq. ft., open concept food hall. Along with the food hall, The Commons features retail shops like Billiam Jeans and Carolina Triathlon + office space with tenants like Gruffy Goat and Outdoor Sports Marketing.

We can’t wait to check out these local faves + more in The Commons.
