Two murals are in progress on Stone Ave. and Academy St.and there are more to come. But first, here’s a look at Greenville’s newest public art (coincidentally both featuring birds) + the projects that made them possible.

Project Host

If your daily commute includes a drive up Academy, you’ve probably noticed the colorful bird mural in progress on the side of Project Host. Leadership Greenville’s Class 45 dedicated their class project to Project Host, helping create updated signage + landscaping and sponsoring a colorful mural to inspire both the community and the soup kitchen’s visitors. The artist: Sunny Mullarkey McGowan, mural artist extraordinaire.

This shot above is the mural as of last week – the birds are almost finished, containing illustrations of produce, cooking tools (to represent Project Host’s culinary school), the Carolina landscape, and text reading “While I Breathe I Hope.” See the complete design here. Sunny Mullarkey McGowan is also known for her print work + most recently, designing the poster for this year’s Artisphere.

Westone

The other mural in progress on Stone Ave. is part of Stone Mural Project, an annual public art initiative (see 2018’s murals here). Joseph Bradley is bringing his signature colorful, nature-inspired art to the side of Westone, the new development including Liability Brewing Co. and Moe’s Original Bar B Que.

Progress is moving quickly, and we’re keeping our eyes peeled for the rest of this year’s mural announcements. 👀
