Lawsuit over segregated WWI memorial delayed

ABC News
A lawsuit is brewing over a WWI monument in Greenwood, S.C. because the memorial has a plaque that separates soldiers’ names by “white” and “colored.” (Yes, it’s 2017.)

Lawyers for the state of S.C. want to throw out the case, but a Greenwood group is advocating for the change and have already raised the $15,000 for the new plaque. The hearing about the case has been postponed until March.

Currently, changes to the memorial (or any historical monument) are only allowed by a two-thirds vote from state Legislature under the Heritage Act.
