Well, Greenville. Of all the things we’ve been nationally recognized for – restaurants, outdoor activities, music, drinks – this is one we didn’t expect to see. On Monday, an article by Food & Wine revealed that the bathroom in Greenville’s Jianna has been named as a finalist for 2019 Best Restroom.

Don’t get me wrong – a lavish latrine definitely gives a place bonus points. But this ranking is kind of a big deal. Cintas, a business services company that (go figure) also offers restroom supplies, has been ranking restrooms in the U.S. for 18 years.

We have some stiff competition. This year’s nominees include:

  • LaGuardia Airport Terminal B
  • Sea-Tac Airport North Satellite Terminal
  • The Nashville Zoo (okay, toilets with exhibit views are pretty cool)
  • Jupiter Next in Portland, O.R.
  • The Natick Mall in Natick, M.A. (feat. a chandelier and marble shelves)
  • NYC’s New Museum of Contemporary Art
  • Butcher and the Brewer in Cleveland, O.H.
  • La Belle Helene in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Mourad, San Francisco, C.A. (this snazzy joint also has a Michelin star)

Jianna’s restrooms were nominated for their embodiment of Italian culture“Picture an old-world town square with cobblestone streets and rustic charm, another that reflects Italy’s beautiful seacoast and the fresh salt air,” says Cintas of the space.

While Jianna is making a name for itself in the world of wash rooms, there are lots of other fashionable facilities in Greenville. In May, Off the Grid Greenville revealed their 2019 Flushies (basically toilet superlative awards) that included Trappe Door, FR8yard, The Silo at RJ Rockers and The Kennedy. Our own rundown last year paid homage to Happy + Hale, GB&D, Limoncello and Endeavor.
