How will ending trade with Mexico affect South Carolina?

If President Trump ends the North American Free Trade Agreement, South Carolina is relatively far down the list of states impacted by a potential trade war with Mexico.

Trade between Mexico and South Carolina ranks No. 17 among U.S. states. The state falls behind Mississippi and ahead of Kansas when it comes to states that would be affected most by trade disruptions with Mexico.

BMW gets most of the parts for vehicles made in their Greer factory from a network of 350 U.S. suppliers.

The plant, which employs 8,800 employees, produces over 400,000 vehicles each year, and exports 70 percent of them to other countries through the Port of Charleston.

Texas is ranked as no. 1, and Arizona as no. 2 for countries that would be most affected. Wyoming and Maine would be the least affected.
