As a Greenville native, few things compare to the holiday season in Greenville—this is absolutely my favorite time of the year. Downtown Main street is illuminated with holiday lights, the community puts up festive decorations and cheery holiday music is on the radio…need I say more? But one of my favorite things about the holiday season is the opportunity to spend time with loved ones. Here in Greenville, there are many ways to celebrate the holidays with those who matter most. Whether you’re a longtime resident or visiting for the holidays, here are some ideas on how to have a very merry Greenville Christmas:

For the past five years, United Community Bank and Ice on Main have partnered together to make the magic happen on Main Street, an event I truly cherish. There is something special about skating your way around a rink surrounded by twinkling lights and your favorite Christmas tunes. From the beginning of the season on November 17 through January 15, there are many fun events, contests and plenty of Christmas joy! If it’s chilly, stay warm and support a wonderful cause with the purchase of a pair of socks and gloves from the rink, where all proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas.

Holiday at Peace is a cherished event put on by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra at the Peace Center. It is more than a way to spread holiday cheer—it also serves as one of the many world-class cultural opportunities and exceptional performing arts events available in our community. This year, Holiday at Peace is December 15-17.

This parade has been the Greenville Christmas kick-off event for more than 75 years, and it is one of my favorites! If you plan to partake, bring chairs, snacks and blankets and stake out your spot at least an hour ahead of time. This year’s parade is Saturday, Dec. 2.

Sadly, this will be the last year for this special Upstate holiday display. Roper Mountain’s holiday light show will light the Greenville night sky one final season after 25+ years. You can see Santa Claus when you visit Winter Wonderland and enjoy a 1.5-mile drive with large displays like Candy Cane Lane, Santa’s Sleigh and other family favorites. Don’t miss your final opportunity to experience this treasure and give back to the community through the profits that are distributed to education and local non-profits.

Christmas in Greenville is a magical experience; and after all, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! There are so many exciting things to do in our beautiful city to celebrate this special time that allows us to create memories with our loved ones. I encourage everyone to try one of these activities that will help you get in the holiday spirit.
