From welcome cocktails as you check in to a nightly turn down service featuring daily pastries, the name of the game is hospitality.

What was once home to the Hartness family — the Greenvillians behind the Hartness community — will open in mid-to-late March as Hotel Hartness, a boutique hotel in Greenville’s Eastside.

We’re taking you along for a sneak peek.

The lobby

As we walked through the front door for our tour, we were greeted with a cocktail and a refreshing towel.

“That isn’t just something we did for you. Everyone will be greeted with that same level of service,” says Michael Bonasia, Director of Sales and Marketing for Hotel Hartness. “We’re hoping to bring hospitality back to hotels.”

We got a sneak peek of The Great Room that opens up to the courtyard, where there will be plenty of seating to sit and enjoy cocktails or small bites.

Down the hall, in what used to be the Hartness’ primary bedroom, you’ll now find The Breakfast Room, where guests can enjoy a complimentary farm-to-table meal — with eggs from Hartness’ chickens — to kick off their day.

The rooms

The property features 69 suites in the main building.

We visited a deluxe suite, with a large walk in shower and tub, and a separate seating area. This room came with a view overlooking the pond behind Hotel Hartness.

Hotel Hartness will also feature four spa suites where you can enjoy treatments in-room.

The restaurants

Opposite The Breakfast Room you’ll find The Captain, a bar and lounge featuring cocktails and small plates from Executive Chef Tanner Marino. The bar, with walls of 170-year-old reclaimed barnwood from the original Hartness Home, seats ~30 guests.

The bar — which is open to the public — will feature a mocktail menu in homage to its namesake, Tom “The Captain” Hartness, who “wasn’t a big drinker.”

⏰ Open seven days a week, 12 p.m.-12 a.m.

Patterson Kitchen and Bar, named to honor a branch of the Hartness family tree, features an open kitchen surrounded by seating, stone walls, wraparound floor to ceiling windows and a waterfront view. The farm-to-table fine-dining restaurant will serve locally and regionally-sourced ingredients and inspired dishes from Executive Chef Tanner Marino.

Chef Tanner tells us the windows — which bring in natural light, a view of the water, and accessibility to the ~60-seat outdoor patio — are his favorite feature. Chef de Cuisine Gianna Smutzi tells us she can’t wait to have a counter around the open kitchen to share the dining experience with guests.

The space also features a wine room with ~300 bottles of wine, which can be reserved for private events.

⏰ Tuesday-Saturday, 4-10 p.m. and Sunday (brunch) 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • A courtyard
  • A pool with a view of the property’s pond
  • Recreational trails and bicycles
